On Monday, a court of Arbitration (CAS) has ruled over the six year ban case of European football governing body’s President, Michel Platini . the court has reduced Platini’s six year ban to within four but the under suspension Uefa President is still not satisfied with the new development.

He has now revealed that he will be stepping down from the position.

Following the judgement, the 60-year-old said he would be stepping down.

Both Platini and former Fifa counterpart Sepp Blatter, were last year found guilty of ethics breaches over a 2m Swiss Franc (£1.3m) “disloyal payment“.

The two of them were initially handed eight years suspension  but had it reduced to within six years by Fifa appeal committee after denying any wrong doing.

Platini had taken his case to Cas seeking to get the ban overturned, but a three-man panel said it “was not convinced by the legitimacy of the payment“.

After the judgement, Platini said in a statement that he will be resigning from his duties.

“I am resigning from my duties as Uefa president to pursue my battle in front of the Swiss courts to prove my innocence in this case.”

According to Platini,  the decision by CAS is  “a profound injustice”.

In reaction to Platini’s comments, the Cas panel was damning of Platini, saying his “behaviour was not ethical or loyal”.

UEFA said it would meet on 18 May “to discuss next steps”.

“In the meantime, there will be appointed ad interim,”  no Uefa president it added.

Michel Platini played 72 times for France, scoring 41 goals, and was regarded as one of the best players in the world at the time.
