– Another Hawks Assistant Lands Head Coaching Appointment 

– Head Coach Mike Budenholzer is a branch from the Gregg Popovich coaching screw, but he’s already growing to being a reputable coach of his own kind.

ATLANTA HAWKS ASSISTANT BECOMES NEW COACH

Hawks recently announced that The Brooklyn Nets have confirmed that they now have a new coach. In there words, they said ’’our Assistant Coach Kenny Atkinson as their new head coach, the latest to land a coaching job after working for Budenholzer, reads a statement from Atlanta Hawks.”

Atkinson has helped as an assistant coach for the Hawks since the last four seasons. During that time, he also coached one game in Budenholzer’s nonappearance.

He also coached the Summer League team to the Final Four in Las Vegas in 2015, and he’s the current head coach of the Dominican National Team, which he coached in the International Basketball Federation  FIBA in the fall of 2015.

Kenneth Neil “Kenny” Atkinson (born June 2, 1967) is an American former professional player was an assistant coach for the  Atlanta Hawks.

He previously served as the Director of Player Development for the Houston Rockets in 2007–08. Born in Huntington, New York, Atkinson played college basketball for University of Richmond, where he led the Spiders to a Sweet Sixteen berth in 1988.

“I’m very happy for Kenny and excited that he’s earned the opportunity to be a head coach,” Budenholzer said in a statement. “His competitiveness, knowledge and feel for the game, and passion for player development are all at a high level and will serve him well as a head coach. With him and Sean in place, the Nets have a very strong foundation to build on.”

New Nets General Manager Sean Marks hired Atkinson. ATLANTA HAWKS ASSISTANT BECOMES NEW COACH

Marks is a former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach and assistant general manager and worked with Budenholzer during Budenholzer’s time in San Antonio.

Atkinson is already the second coach from Budenholzer’s staff to land an NBA head coaching job.

Quin Snyder, who worked under Budenholzer in 2013-14, is the current head coach of the Utah Jazz.
