ATLETICO MADRID QUALIFY FOR CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL

Spanish team, Atletico Madrid have qualified for Champions League final which will be played in Milan at San Siro on May 28.

The La Liga team progressed to the final on Tuesday night after finishing on a 2-2 aggregate against Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi final match.

Although, Diego Simeone’s fierce men lost Tuesday’s game at the Allianz Arena trailing Bayern by 2 goals to 1, their 1-0 victory over the German team in the first leg was enough to see them through.

Coming into the game, Bayern appeared the more dominant side, edging Atletico on possession and then moving on to opening the scoring on the 31st minute of the first half through Alonso’s free kick.

But Atletico bounced back to level up with Griezmann’s gaol in the second half before Lewandowski added the second for the Bundesliga champions.

Despite Bayern’s possessive play of 73% coupled with massive 33 goal attempts, they were unable to get the third of the night which could have seen them make it to the final.

Atletico have now qualified for their third champions league finals in the history of the Uefa competition, having first loss in the final to Bayern in 1974.

Their second appearance in the final was in 2014 but lost to La Liga and city rivals, Real Madrid.

Atletico now looks set to face either Real Madrid or Manchester in the Milan finals on the 28th of May this year and will be hoping to clinching on their first ever victory in as many champions league finals.
