Kindle Oasis 2017 Version – Review

If you are looking for a portable, waterproof and bright e-book reader, Amazon has done it all with the new Kindle Oasis. The new Kindle Oasis 2017 version unlike previous moving from a 6-inch screen to a 7-inch screen. It also has an aluminum back this gives it a more premium look and feel than the Kindles with soft-touch plastic.

The resolution of the e-paper display is the same at 300 ppi, but it has a couple extra LED lights now for a brighter, more even-looking display. And it also has ambient light sensors that adjust the brightness as you move from room to room, or from outdoors to indoors. It has a similar physical design, with one thicker side that tapers down on the other side, for one-handed reading. But Amazon has made a point of saying that it managed to fit in a bigger battery, while keeping the tapered side of the device at 3.4 millimeters.

The Kindle Oasis 2017 version also works with Audible titles. It’s heavier than the last generation Kindle Oasis at 194g, but it’s still feels very comfortable in the hand and weighs less than the Kindle Paperwhite.

The new design does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means you won’t be able to listen to audiobooks with wired headphones and that will be uncomfortable for some people. With this little off the new model is still by far the sturdiest Kindle I’ve ever held, thanks to its metal case. It didn’t feel like it’d be uncomfortable to hold while diving into a new book for hours.

Amazon will start shipping them out on October 31st.
