Pristina international Airport, Kosovo’s main airport has announced that it has temporarily shut down after a Turkish Airlines flight appeared to have overshot a runway while landing in rainy weather.

The plane skidded off the run away and landed in a rain ditch.

According to the Associated Press, Pristina International Airport spokesperson Valentina Gara told reporters that the flight from Istanbul was carrying 143 passengers and eight crew members. She said that the plane “had a minor accident that fortunately caused no injuries.”

Gara continued “the airport will be shut until the preliminary technical investigation”, until the cause of the incident was known. He gave no further details. Three other flights were cancelled.

Local media showed a photo in which the plane was on grass and people were rushing off it. It was raining at the time of the incident.

Local media also reports that the rain could be the cause of the mishap as the run way must have become too slippery.
