– ‘La La Land’ breaks Golden Globes Record

– It won the highest number of Awards by one single film

Acclaimed musical, ‘La La Land’, swept aside every one of its competition at the 2017 Golden Globes awards which held on Sunday.

The musical drama won in each of the seven categories it was nominated, setting a record for the most Golden Globes won by a single film.

Damien Chazelle won the awards for directing and screenplay; Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling took home the awards for best actor and actress, respectively; composer Justin Hurwitz won for best score, as well as best original song with lyricists Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for “City of Stars.”

The previous record was jointly held by Doctor Zhivago (1965), Love Story (1970), The Godfather (1972), One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), and A Star is Born (1976).

Moonlight, the second highest nominated movie after La La Land, won the Golden Globe for best motion picture, drama.

The film was nominated in six categories but only went home with one win on the night.

Barry Jenkins, director-screenwriter, was the second African-American to be nominated for directing and screenplay by the Golden Globes in the same year.

Moonlight edged out Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Lion, and Manchester by the Sea to win the best picture award.

Jimmy Fallon hosted the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards, which took place at the Beverly Hilton on Jan. 8.
