LEICESTER’S TRIO DOMINATE PFA SHORTLIST

Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy have scored 36 goals between them for Leicester this season.

Three of English Premier League table leaders, Leicester have dominated the current PFA Players’ of the Year award.

These include the club’s leading highest goal getter, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez as well as N’Golo Kante. All three have been named on the six-man shortlist for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

Naijapr understands that both Vardy and Mahrez have scored a total of 36 goals between them in the present campaign. Joined by the Leicester men are Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet and Tottenham striker Harry Kane.

Kane is also in contention to retain the Young Player of the Year award he won 12 months ago and is named alongside Spurs team-mate Dele Alli. The English international is presently the highest goal scorer in the premier league with 22 goals, followed by Vardy.

The winners for each category are expected to  be announced on Sunday, 24 April. Vardy has scored 21 league goals and made six assists, while playmaker Mahrez has contributed 16 goals and 11 assists.

The PFA award was won by Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard last season.

Everton duo Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland and Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho have all been named on the Young Player of the Year shortlist.
