LG Brings Windows 10 To A Smart Fridge
– The Smart Refrigerator comes with a 29-inch semi-transparent touchscreen.
– The Smart display turns semi-transparent which allows anyone see what’s in your fridge without opening it.
The LG Smart InstaView Door-In-Door Refrigerator comes with a 29-inch semi-transparent touchscreen. That touch screen display is hooked up to one of Intel’s USB-connected compute sticks, turning the device into a fully-featured Windows 10 tablet, complete with Cortana. The Smart InstaView’s display will turn semi-transparent, allowing anyone see what’s in your fridge without opening it, cool right?
In this mode, you can use a software tweak to add overlays to the view, like modern-day post-it notes. You can use them to identify which portion of the space is to be used for gluten-free foods, or where you’ll keep the dairy products.
Owners of the smart fridge can even install apps from the Windows Store on here, play music out of the speakers, or use Cortana for voice control. The apps blend with the translucent display so you can have the weather on display while checking how much milk you have left.
There’s also a built-in Bluetooth speaker that sits above the main compartment, although it’s not yet clear if you’ll be able to hear it when the doors are closed. The price or availability of the smart fridge has not been said yet, but the Smart Instaview Door-in-Door fridge should launch later this year.
