No doubt, Mets is really having a whole lot to prove this time when the season is still very fresh.

The Mets’ 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday is unlikely to be edited into a future video  highlight, but the team treated its eighth game of 2016 as if it were a season-defining moment, capped by Jeurys Familia’s collecting a rare five-out save.

The perception is that there’s no energy here, which is completely not true,” Manager Terry Collins said, boiling with intensity.

“That we’re not prepared, we’re overconfident or we’re not taking things seriously.

I heard that last night, and it made me sick to my stomach that people actually think that this team that accomplished what they did last year would have any semblance of that type of makeup.

So I said: ‘You know what? We got to win this game today. We got to show people we mean business here.’

“And that’s why I did what I did with Jeurys today.”

Familia, despite battling a cold, told Collins that he was ready to pitch.

David Wright indicated his back was ready for the short turnaround from a night game and asked to be put in the lineup.

“I tried to jump to get the ball just to give the max effort for the team to see if we could get a win,” Cespedes said through an interpreter.

Such lengths seemed necessary on an afternoon when the Mets’ bats were once again silent.

After scoring seven runs in Friday’s home opener, the Mets tallied eight in their final five games of the homestand, never putting more than three runs on the scoreboard in one game.

The offense finally quenched its thirst for runs in the seventh inning.

Kevin Plawecki’s single scored two, the deciding hit that halted a four-game losing skid.

“Definitely, there was a sense of urgency to get a win today by all of us,” Plawecki said.

Logan Verrett pitched strongly as a substitute for Jacob deGrom, allowing three hits and no runs in six scoreless innings.

As Verrett flourished, Miami’s Adam Conley was just as sharp, striking out a career-high nine batters and also tossing zeros for six innings.

With the stakes raised by the Mets, Collins made a risky pitching change that, for some time, seemed as if it would have calamitous consequences.

After Jim Henderson threw 34 pitches on Tuesday night, Collins called on him again to replace Verrett. Henderson, who had told Collins earlier in the day that he felt great, gave up a leadoff single to Martin Prado, then walked the next two batters, his formerly electric fastball barely touching 90 miles per hour.

When Collins went out to pull Henderson, Wright tried to console him by tapping him on the shoulder. Moments later, when Henderson entered the dugout, he slammed his glove on the bench.

I couldn’t get on top of the ball today, and that was the issue,” Henderson said. “Mechanically, I was off.”

However,  Hansel Robles volleyed out the next two batters, and the left-hander Jerry Blevins (1-0) was summoned to face Dee Gordon.

After sending a 3-1 pitch just wide of the right-field foul pole, Gordon flied out to left, leaving the bases loaded and the score 0-0.

Wilmer Flores and Asdrubal Cabrera sat at the bottom of the seventh with singles.

Two batters later, they scored on Plawecki’s first hit of the season.

The Mets’ bullpen allowed one run in the eighth inning, but Familia prevented further damage for the much-needed win.

This was a game we had to have,” Collins said.. “We couldn’t sacrifice another game

The Mets avoided their first 2-6 start to a season since 2010, a lost campaign that finished with the axing of Manager Jerry Manuel and General Manager Omar Minaya.

In contrast, their 3-5 start matches the record of their first World Series championship team, in 1969.

We’ve gotten off to a slow start — it happens,” Collins said, adding, “There’s teams that get off to slow starts that have huge second halves and run away with stuff.”

Collins closed his postgame news conference by telling the collection of reporters: “You guys love the drama.

I don’t love the drama. I just worry about winning games.”
