Michael Jackson’s Thriller album reaches its 300th Week on Chart
Yes, that’s right; the album Thriller by Michael Jackson has hit another landmark by reaching its 300th week on the latest Billboard 200 album chart. The famous album which currently ranks at No.126, moved up from No. 165 in its 300th week in the tally. This makes it the 16th album to spend 300 weeks on the Billboard 200.
Thriller, which was released in 1982, made its first entry on the chart at No.11 (December 1982) and later rose to No.1 on February 26, 1983. It spent 37 weeks at the No. 1 spot making it the highest number of weeks for an album by an artist.
The Billboard 200 chart ranking for the week’s most popular albums is compiled based on overall consumption. This includes “pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)”.
Michael Jackson’s Thriller album was a landmark album for his career and definition as King of Pop. It was hugely successfully at the time of its release and still remains a favourite through the years. It was the legend’s sixth studio album and it was released under Epic Records on November 30, 1982.
