Manolo Blahnik Documentary Now Showing

A documentary about iconic shoe designer, Manolo Blahnik,  has been released. The film was directed by the designer long-time friend, fashion writer/editor Michael Roberts. Titled Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards, the work takes a look at the Spanish designer’s early life.

The film gives audiences a chance to understand his life and his work better using recreated footage of Blahnik’s childhood. Speaking on the project, Blahnik said, “I am a mess in front of the camera. I said to Michael the only condition is that I don’t want to be filmed too much because some days I’m run down or sick,”. He further explaine, “I preferred all the people talking about me — if they want to. This is what the movie is about, it’s like a documentary seen through the eyes of other people, although I’m there, yes.”

The film features commentary from a many renowned figures from the fashion industry and other celebrities. The likes of Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, John Galliano and Anna Wintour feature in the documentary.

The Monolo Blahnik documentary, which already made its debut in New York on September 15,also showed in London on Monday night during the fashion week.

Manolo Blahnik has an iconic status as a shoe maker with his designers often sought after by shoe lovers and celebrities.  However, his work and reputation received further boost with the series “Sex and The City”. The main character, Carrie Bradshaw, was a true lover of Manolo Blahniks shoes. The Hangisi shoe which she wore for her wedding in the movie became a favourite among many customers.
