SELF-FILLING WATER BOTTLE HAS EVOLVED

A self-filling solar cells powered water bottle called Fontus has evolved. It is created by Austrian industrial designer Kristof Retezar.

Fontus, a water bottle that takes in moisture from surrounding air, can produce clean, drinkable water in under an hour (assuming the air is also relatively clean). It can harvest up to 0, 5 l water in an hour’s time under the right climatic conditions.

Retezár told Live Science: “This is simply condensation of the humidity that is contained in the air.”

According to Retezár, the bottle works best between 86 degrees and 104 degrees Fahrenheit and between 80 and 90% humidity. Over the course of an hour, Fontus can produce roughly 0.5 quarts of water.

Retezár designed it essentially to help people in water-scarce areas, including some 1.2 billion people around the world. Rather than relying on complex water purification systems, he wanted to make something modest and compact.

However, Fontus has grown from an experimentation of concepts into two different designs that looks like a finished product. It is now And Fontus is now available on Indiegogo in order to let backers get a self-filling water bottle for the first time. The designs are Fontus Ryde and Fontus Airo.

Fontus Ryde is the self-filling water bottle for your bicycle. Harvest water while you are on your bike tour and stay regulary hydrated! This bottle uses the airstream you create while riding in order to support a cooler which helps to condense water from the air.

Fontus Airo saves you trouble, weight and might even save your life. Whether you are hiking in the mountains, camping by the forest or preparing for a survival trip in the desert, Airo will always guarantee you a safe and smooth adventure.

However, free designs like these are not cheap. So backers are expected to pledge at least $165 to get a Fontus Ryde at the early bird level, while the Airo runs $250 for early-bird customers.

The campaign has already drawn over $200,000 in backing, far beyond its $30,000 goal. Delivery to backers is expected in April 2017.
