– Diabetes is the general term used for a condition that leads to an increase in glucose levels in the blood.

 

Type 2 Diabetes is largely preventable and treatable non-communicable disease that is rapidly increasing in numbers worldwide. Type 1 Diabetes is not preventable but can be treated with insulin shots. World Diabetes Day was launched in 1991 by the IDF and the WHO in response to the rapid rise of diabetes around the world. Factors such as diet, lifestyle and genetics make you prone to the disease than the others. Diabetes is the general term used for a condition that leads to an increase in glucose levels in the blood. It occurs when the pancreas is either unable to make sufficient amounts of insulin or the insulin produced does not function properly.

Family history of diabetes
Type 2 diabetes has a stronger connection to family history and lineage than type 1 but it can be treated with the proper medications. You can inherit this condition and also something in your environment could trigger it especially if there is a history of obesity.

Lifestyle modification
Eating more junk and fatty food, aerated drinks and erratic meal habits can all contribute towards the risk of having diabetes. Every extra hour of sitting increases the risk of having diabetes. Keep a healthy diet and increased physical activity then you can prevent type 2 diabetes.

Obesity
Get rid of excess weight through diet and exercise plan. Weight loss and a healthy diet can even reverse pre-diabetes. Gaining weight may make you prone to diabetes.

Food habits and balanced diet
It is important to balance the amount of carbohydrate, fats and proteins with fruits you take. Studies have shown that missing breakfast increase the risk of developing diabetes.

Exercise regularly
Exercise daily for at least 30 to 45 minutes. Make sure you take small breaks in between your workouts. Sedentary habits are contributing in a big way to increasing incidences of diabetes.

Adequate Sleep
Together with food and exercise, proper rest is also important. Having 7-8 hours sleep everyday is a must as the body rejuvenates itself during sleep by eliminating the toxins which accumulate during the time we are awake. Late nights and late mornings put you at risk of having diabetes and hypertension.
