Roy Bennett, a Zimbabwean politician who had two spells under the reign of the former president, Robert Mugabe has been killed in a helicopter clash.
He died with his wife who was with him and the Police in New Mexico have confirmed the crash on Wednesday.
Bennett who was the former treasurer general of the movement for Democratic Change Tsvangirai which is the current Zimbabawe’s main opposition party had spent years campaigning against Mugabe and he was jailed while trying to negotiate a power-sharing government with him in 2009.
It should be noted that he had lived in South Africa on political asylum which was first granted in 2007 and then he fled again after he was jailed on his return.
David Coltart, the former Zimbabwea government minister who confirmed their death has claimed to be devastated over the news of his death and that of his wife as both of them were “two of Zimbabwe’s greatest patriots”
